In a word… brutal! That said, it’s well worth the effort. Perhaps the most challenging part is the first kmas you crawl from the B4629 up and over the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. There are many changes in gradient on the overall ascent but, thankfully, there are good pockets of consistency which allow you to establish and keep to a manageable rhythm.
Hard especially when attempted on a Brompton.
Really epic once you break out of the trees and on the sunny day I did it a nice swim at the top in Keeper's Pond was essential.
