The Forcella Staulanza, signposted as Passo Staulanza, starts just outside the centre of Caprile. The first kilometers ascend slowly, following the course of the Torrente Fiorentina river, along a straight road with slight curves and through 3 unlit tunnels (longest 300m.) to finally turn left upwards through some steep climbing hairpins to reach the village of Selva di Cadore (exit of Passo Giau). After that a moment of recuperation with even a few descents through several small villages. Th... read more

Only done from Selva but except for the last km it is very rideable. Spectacular views...

Panorami spettacolari...

I only did the first part, which is really a connecting road. It doesn't look like it's going to be spectacular later on. But as a connection from Arabba to the Passo Giau, this is fine

Not an insidious climb if tackled alone... a splendid panorama while pedalling with the Pelmo mountain next to you that you seem to be able to touch!

The climb ends with 6 numbered hairpins through the pine forest that count down to the pass height which, apart from a rifugio, is not very touristic. During the whole climb and on the summit regularly beautiful views of the impressive Mont Pelmo (3168m).
Refreshments are available on the way/top and in the scorching heat the fresh village fountain in Selva was a gift.

Nice varied climb without extremes.

Mooie afwisselende klim zonder extremen.
