This isn't a climb in my book. It's a series of bumps. (After Sa Creueta, which is defo a climb!) But, it's the greatest series of bumps I've ever ridden. In a little over 2 weeks on the island, I reckon I've ridden it 7 times now. Challenging, beautiful, iconic. The best out and back route there is for me.
Férias por Maiorca. A esposa e o filho deixaram-me dar uma voltinha até ao farol de Formentor, num dia um bocado agreste. Bicicleta alugada em Alcúdia (cidade muralhada interessante mas com excesso de turistas) e lá fui eu. 55km com subidas acessíveis. Primeiros quilómetros planos para aquecer e depois começam as subidas e as incríveis paisagens. Muitos ciclistas a fazer este percurso, a diferentes ritmos. Infelizmente a quantidade de carros era enorme, mesmo num dia feio.
Uma subidinha até ao farol. O farol é normal mas as vistas são excelentes. Fiz a subida quase toda na via contrária... Passei uns 30 carros parados no engarrafamento para o farol. Carros a dar a volta para voltarem para trás em curvas, carros estacionados fora de sítio, que confusão. E isto, num dia mauzinho mesmo no final de abril. Entretanto, sei que no verão esta estrada está felizmente fechada a trânsito. Aí sim, valerá a pena vir aqui.

Vacation in Mallorca. My wife and son let me take a ride to the Formentor lighthouse on a somewhat rough day. I rented a bike in Alcúdia (an interesting walled city but overcrowded with tourists) and off I went. 55km with manageable climbs. The first few kilometers were flat to warm up, and then the climbs and incredible landscapes began. Many cyclists were doing this route at different paces. Unfortunately, the number of cars was enormous, even on an ugly day.
A little climb up to the lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is ordinary, but the views are excellent. I did most of the climb on the opposite lane... I passed about 30 cars stuck in a traffic jam heading to the lighthouse. Cars turning around on curves, cars parked out of place, what a mess. And this was on a bad day at the end of April. I understand that in the summer this road is fortunately closed to traffic. Then it will truly be worth coming here.
The ride to Cap de Formentor lighthouse are three relatively short climbs including last very short climb to the lighthouse itself (max 3km). They are definitely light climbs. The drive, tarmac, views are beautiful. Traffic (cars, buses, trucks) in May holiday was really terrible 😢 On that basis, I would give three stars. The road was completely open to traffic up to the lighthouse despite other reports here. Watch out when going downhill for idiot drivers overtaking on blind bends!
De rit naar Cap de Formentor vuurtoren zijn drie relatief korte klimmen inclusief laatste hele korte klim naar de vuurtoren zelf (max 3km). Ze zijn zeker lichte klimmen. De rit, asfalt, uitzicht zijn prachtig. Verkeer (auto’s, bussen, vrachtwagens) was in mei vakantie echt vreselijk 😢 op basis daarvan zou ik drie sterren geven. De weg was tot aan de vuurtoren helemaal open voor verkeer ondanks andere berichtgeving hier. Uitkijken bij het afdalen voor idiote automobilisten die inhalen in blinde bochten!
This little climb is the icing on the cake. We started in Pollenca and then headed towards Cap Formentor. At the pretty little beach (Platja Formentor), I had hoped to get coffee, but in the low season that turned out not to be the case. So on good luck up to the cape and the last bit to the lighthouse. And what luck: excellent coffee is served here. Not cheap, but when you get here you've always earned it!
Dit klimmetje is de kers op de taart. Wij zijn begonnen in Pollenca en zijn toen richting Cap Formentor gereden. Bij het het mooie strandje (Platja Formentor) had ik gehoopt koffie te krijgen, maar in het laagseizoen bleek dat niet het geval. Dus op goed geluk omhoog naar de kaap en het laatste stukje naar de vuurtoren. En wat een geluk: hier wordt voortreffelijke koffie geschonken. Niet goedkoop, maar als je hier aankomt heb je het altijd verdiend!
Went up in February 2022. 7km before the lighthouse, the road is closed to cars. A real dream. It does not get more beautiful than this.
Bin im Februar 2022 hochgefahren. 7km vor dem Leuchtturm ist die Straße für Autos gesperrt. Ein wirklicher Traum. Schöner geht es nicht.
