Short but sweet, good steepness on this climb for some training reps. Not too much traffic. Really good view across the midlands if you carry on a few hundred meters from the top.... read more

A tough climb. Not too busy but a wide road. No views, just woodland until you get to Edgehill Castle. Still a must do for the area. Some interesting history: the castle at the top is an ornamental sham castle primarily built around 1747 out of the local ironstone. Below the hill is the site of the Battle of Edgehill, an English Civil War battle.Royalist troops led by King Charles I camped at the top of the hill, with Parliamentarians at the bottom. This early engagement proved indecisive, with both sides evenly matched, allowing the war to develop. Finally, parallel to the climb runs the course of Edge Hill Light Railway. This was constructed to service the quarries at the top of the hill, but was very quickly closed when it proved uneconomical. Some traces remain as embankments on the lane to Arlescote, and part of the line is maintained to serve the army depot at Kineton.
