A very quiet lane straight up the hillside, but you have to ride on a medium-busy A road to get there. The shallow start is on a poor surface, but for the mid section is much better. It deteriorates again after the last farm building and is steeper: it is doable on a rod bike with 700x25c, but not the best place to be riding with a very expensive wheelset, due to the loose stones and sections of lost tarmac. At a sharp left it has become a stony track to a road junction. However, it is a lot kinder on the wheels to just ride straight up on the smooth footpath through the field instead, to reach the hill ridge at 270 metres. Best to descend back the same way.
