Dolesden Lane is one of those deceptive climbs. When you get onto the long straight section you think it's flat, and wonder why it feels hard. Then you look at your head unit and find it's 5％ gradient. So once you get to the steeper part you're already tired from pushing along the lower section, and then it gets harder. Scenically, it's not the greatest climb. There are some views lower down, but you need to be looking the other way. Unfortunately there aren't many options if you're coming from Fingest and need to get over the Chilterns via Christmas Common. It's a fantastic descent though, you can really fly on that lower straight section.

The climb goes up in stages and is fairly straight so you can see a lot of whats coming, not really tough but one of those climbs where you will need to work
