An ascent that starts near Avasinis, a pleasant village where the Raspberry and Blueberry Festival is held at Ferragosto: a recommended destination at the end of a bike ride, to refresh yourself with raspberry-flavored beer, ice cream and Friulian specialties.
The climb is very tough, tougher than the average gradient says (which is distorted by the almost flat last section). It is actually a little more than 7 km at 10%, but even this figure is misleading: after the first 2 km with gradients around 11-12%, in fact, there is a very short easier section; from there on, the gradients are extremely uneven, and easier sections (even a short counter-slope 1500 m from the top of the hill) are followed by very hard ramps, with gradients reaching 20%. The whole route is in the woods, on narrow road that is not always in very good condition (but still easily doable on a road bike).Traffic is generally limited, but best to be careful.
Once at the top there's a short descent, then another short easy climb to Monte Prat. From there it is downhill to the Tagliamento, on a nice, wide road.
