This is the road that leads to the Col de la Madeleine on the south side. You take the D213 for 4 kilometres before continuing straight on the D213a towards Pussy. I'm giving up on the easy, bawdy jokes that are so tempting. These first few kilometres are pretty serious. A milestone announces 11%. The road is excellent and pleasant. This is the road that leads to the Col de la Madeleine on the south side.

These first few kilometres are pretty serious.
A milestone announces 11%. The road is excellent and pleasant. The surface deteriorates as soon as you leave the D213 for the D213a. It gets worse, especially after the pretty village of Pussy: the road authorities have had the bright idea of laying gravel on the road in several areas.
It makes the descent a real pain. The numerous drainage ditches were already enough to slow us down.
Back to the climb: the gradients are serious from start to finish. We climb most often around 8 or 9%. There's very little traffic on the road. I only passed lumberjacks and Office National des Forêts vehicles.
The forest is wild and beautiful.
Up there, just before the road turns into a gravel track, there's a beautiful panorama of snow-capped peaks.
The other bonus is the huge and impressive factories that operate in the valley between Notre-Dame de Briançon and the start of the climb.
I hesitated between 3 and 4 stars. The descent was unpleasant, so I'll settle for 3.
