Beautiful climb in beautiful surroundings. The second part of the climb takes you on a quiet road with little car traffic. Once near the summit, there are great views of the eponymous village of Colle Santa Lucia and its picturesque church. The ascent of Passo Giau then beckons in the distance.
Prachtige klim in een mooie omgeving. Het tweede deel van de klim voert over een rustige weg met weinig autoverkeer. Eenmaal in de buurt van de top heb je een prachtig uitzicht op het gelijknamige dorpje Colle Santa Lucia en haar pittoreske kerkje. In de verte lonkt vervolgens de opgang van de Passo Giau.
The first five kilometers are the same as the Passo Falzarego so you start the climb also from the center of Caprile directly through some hairpin bends along the church up the SR203. Ter hoogt van het gehucht Rucava verlaat je deze route door rechts af te draaien. (wegwijzer Colle/Selva/Passo Staulanza-Giau). Verder draaiend klimwerk opvallend regelmatig langs rotsen met ijzeren netten beveiligd tegen vallende stenen en een korte halfopen tunnel.
Je komt uiteindelijk op het hoogste weergaloos uitzichtpunt Belvedere waar je beneden diep je vertrekpunt ziet en frontaal zicht hebt op beroemde Monte Civetta. Zeker (even) stoppen zoals ook Marco Pantani deed in 2002 om tijdens de koninginnenrit hier uit de Giro te stappen.
Na een lichte daling bereik je via de westzijde het kerkplein van het schilderachtig dorpje als eindpunt.
Je kan verder doorfietsen tot Selva en dan rechts via een reeks haarspeldbochten afdalen naar de rivier (zie Climbfinder andere route) die terug naar je vertrekstadje stroomt voor een perfect opwarmingsrondje!
