I found this pass difficult because it was quite irregular on the second part. The announced percentages are quite misleading because of some descents and false flats. So of course there are higher percentages to compensate. Not a pass for me and I don't have the legs either. Exposed climb almost all the way; beware of heat stroke. The road surface is not very good, especially as you will have to take the same road back down so be careful. The scenery is beautiful and the traffic is very light.
J'ai trouvé ce col difficile car assez irrégulier sur la deuxième partie. Les pourcentages annoncés sont assez trompeur du fait de quelques descentes et faux plats. Donc forcément il y a de plus fort pourcentage pour compenser. Pas un col pour moi et pas trop les jambes non plus. Montée exposée quasi tout le long ; attention au coup de chaud. La surface de la route n'est pas très bonne, d'autant que vous serez obligé de reprendre la même route pour redescendre donc prudence. Les paysages sont par contre magnifiques et la circulation très faible.
Edit : pas fait exactement la trace indiquée sur le site car elle n'emprunte pas les 10 km "officiels" du col du Joly (départ devant la centrale EDF).
Beautiful climb with varying percentages with the most difficult part in the second half. Until the top nice views over the valley. Good road surface until the top where the road stops at a parking lot with a beautiful view on the Mont Blanc.
Prachtige beklimming met wisselende percentages met in de 2de helft het lastigste deel. Tot op de top mooie uitzichten over de vallei. Goed wegdek tot de top waar de weg stopt op een parking met schitterend uitzicht op de Mont Blanc.
A much more beautiful view on the Mont Blanc you will hardly find. I only came off road from the Lac de Roselend but the photo is from Marit who came from Hauteluce. Above a restaurant with delicious blueberry pie.
Een veel mooier zicht op de Mont Blanc zul je lastig vinden. Zelf op de fiets alleen offroad gekomen vanaf de Lac de Roselend maar foto is van Marit die vanaf Hauteluce is gekomen. Boven een restaurant met heerlijke bosbessentaart.
