Done on 27 July 2023 after Pré du Fourneau via Lancey. Normally I'd planned to do the alternative via Brignoud but I took a right on a small, steep road that joins the version via Villard Bonnot, but that's not the end of it! As I realised I wasn't on the right road, I went back down to Villard Bonnot and then back up what I'd come down on... and so I did the most complicated version. At the start, as Franck points out, you have to be careful with your gears for the first 3.5 kilometres, then it calms down despite a few steep sections.
The final stretch is almost bare and I suffered from the sun, but not just that, as I had already started up the Pré du Fourneau.
Otherwise, it's a fine climb that takes you up to the Col des Mouilles, among other places.

Superb climb in a relatively quiet area in terms of traffic and cyclists. Sometimes you really have the place to yourself. Stay alert because the road is narrow and there is sometimes an oncoming car.

Of the various accesses to the Col des Mouilles, this is the most severe. The first few kilometers are unforgiving for those who are optimistic about their gearing. Then, after Saint-Agnès the route joins the Belledonne balcony road and the slope is generally gentler until the summit. Magnificent views are offered to the brave cyclist, who can also say hello to some African heads carved in the wood along the road about two kilometers from the summit. Catering is available at the pass itself, please ask about opening hours.
