On va chercher ce col en empruntant la petite route qui serpente au pied des falaises du Vercors par Saint Andéol, son approche est trompeuse et ne laisse pas penser qu'il s'agit d'un mur assez court mais à la pente terrible. A la sortie des deux seuls lacets, il faut vraiment s'employer pour aller chercher le sommet. Un classique à enchaîner après l'Arzelier et avant l'Allimas.
