Climb to the col de Bordères in combination with Lac d'Estaing on the same route. To climb out of the starting town Argelès Gazost you have to push the pedals on the at times busy road towards Aubisque/Soulor which you can turn left in the first village Arras-en-Lavedam. Signposts to Lac d'Estaing indicate the exit after which you first cycle through the small streets of the village centre followed by a short descent to the river (La Gave d'Azur). After the bridge over the rive... read more

A pretty pass that allows you to avoid the traffic on the main road. The surface isn't always excellent, but it's still decent. You don't have the best views of the Pyrenees either, but you follow a stream and pass through some pretty hamlets. The slope becomes very steep in places, particularly after Estaing. There is a signpost at the summit, after a flat area, so don't miss it for the photo!

Nice alternative to the "big road" towards Soulor. Irregular percentages, small roads, all good. After Estaing, it still gets tough to the top.

from Argeles-Gazost, it’s a lovely irregular climb via Arcizans-Avant, on a quiet, peaceful road to lac d’Estaing- beautiful lake, many cafes/restaurants there- worth the detour before climbing the short and steep Bordères. no views at top of Bordères, just green fields. fun descent into Aucun passing a picturesque stone bridge.

Great combo with the lac d'Estaing to cycle in and warm up for the heavier work in the area. Not much else to say about this col. Except that it is nice and quiet and has a good road surface.

Beautiful surroundings and nice climb when you are in the area. It is a very irregular climb. So a lot of gear shifting. Very worthwhile to cycle on to Lac d'Estaing. One of the most beautiful lakes in the area.

My very first ever climb in a high mountain. However, I left from hotel "Le Picors", where you are really welcome as a cycling tourist. From there, I rode a bit back towards Argelès to descend to Bun. There I then came to the climb to the Bordères. As Patrick points out below, it's worth riding first to the beautiful "lac d' Estaing" and then descending back and turning left in Estaing for another 2 tough kilometres to the summit. Once past the summit, you'll be down in Arrens in no time where you can immediately pop up the Soulor. My thoughts : Not exactly a top climb, not bad for warming up, not a tough climb and the road is of good quality. The second time I rode it in combination with the Soulor, the Spandelles and Hautacam.

Nice climb to make the Aubisque from Argeles Gazost a little harder. Only the last two kilometers are hard, otherwise a good runner.

After the bridge over the river it is a tough climb, but from then on the narrow road between the woods follows the river gently upstream. In Estaing you can turn right immediately for the steep end of the climb to Col de Bordères but I cycled first straight on for about four extra kilometers to Lac d'Estaing a beautiful lake surrounded by mountain peaks and occasionally cows / horses and tourists along the shore.
On returning to Estaing you can then turn left for those last two tough climbing kilometers through meadows to the desolate top on a plateau.
Good thing there was a sign because I had cycled past it.
Food supply at the start, in Estaing or at the lake (if you continue). Not at the top.

Ideal warm-up for tougher and better known cycling on the tour classics in the area.
