Nice climb in beautiful surroundings in the Drome. From the D70 you turn to Valouse (D130) at the foot of the col de Sausse. The first km is false flat to the top and after a short km you start to climb until 500 m from the top at a relatively steady gradient. There are no steep parts and the road is sometimes quite narrow. The successive bends make it a pleasant climb. Also with 4.9 km it is certainly not long. Along the way, there are 2 alternatives to get to Valouse, but both these branches... read more

Nice hidden climb. Meanders up the first part nicely through a gorge. Lovely and quiet too. Climb itself is fine

Mooie verborgen klim.

Climbed 28 June 2024. In summer this is a hot climb, set yourself up for it. Road surface is ok and little traffic. Very nice and fun cycling area. I enjoyed it.

Actually, like Col de la Sausse, the climb already starts in St.Ferreol-Trente-Pas, but the first part goes up on the D70 with only 2-3%. Once on the D130, there is a vicious bit in the gorge, after which it climbs more gently again in a long loop followed by a hairpin bend. From about 100m after the hairpin to 500m below the summit, the average ascent is about'n 6%, with a short spike here and there towards 8%. At about'm before the summit (when you just pass a big house on the left side of the road), the percentage suddenly goes down sharply and it is easy paddling up, or just a bit more to a higher gear of course.
There is some shade here and there, e.g. in the gorge, but in summer this is quite a hot climb!

Along the way, there are 2 alternatives to get to Valouse, but both these branches have monster percentages, especially the goat path which regularly goes up to 20%. As often in the Drome, there is no shade except at the top. Highly recommended if you are in the area and if you like the Angliru atmosphere you should take a right half way to Valouse but make sure you have suitable gears or you can forget it.
