The beginning is easy and very rolling, and gradually the gradient gets steeper and steeper, 2% 3% 4% then on leaving the village of St Engrace things suddenly become totally different and it gets extremely hard. Long straights, on a wide road, with gradients of 12-13%. Above all, don't rely on the average percentages written on the signs, because this pass includes many, many small descents which of course lower the average. But you are constantly above 10% when the road rises. A... read more

One of the tougher climbs in the Pyrenees. The last 5 km are continuous between 10%and 15%. Especially for someone weighing 80 kilos, it becomes gruelling then. At the top, unfortunately, no views and no refreshment either.

Long straights, on a wide road, with gradients of 12-13%. Above all, don't rely on the average percentages written on the signs, because this pass includes many, many small descents which of course lower the average. But you are constantly above 10% when the road rises. As for me, I must have had a hunger attack because I couldn't go any further with my 1kg jacket on my back ... having done the Ventoux a week before and other passes, this was the one where I had the most trouble by far! I wish you the best of luck and prepare for hell if you don't have good legs or have already covered a lot of kilometres like I did that day!
