Bloody 5km coming from Menté. First kilometre is the most impressive. Not only the gradients against the 15% but especially the Casartelli memorial and monument make a deep impression. The road then winds upwards through a kind of rainforest. Very impressive. The beautiful vegetation almost makes you forget how tough this short climb is.

Did it coming from the Menté, short but bloody steep, averages per km don’t mean a lot, steep bits up to 14%…, great one to do, through the green forests do not to much to suffer from the heat…

Done this climb in a round trip from Aspet via Saint-Girons to Aspet. Start of the climb from Aspet starts very calm then indeed some erratic sections of 15%. Very quiet in terms of traffic and almost the whole stretch in the shade , nice climb!

Short but steep. I climbed it after the Col de Menté and back, already tired from the d+ I'd accumulated, and it buried me. The diversions to Fabio Casartelli's stele is compulsory (on the descent, as I'm not sure I'll be able to get going again in the middle of the climb). A short stop at Philippe Gilbert's parapet doesn't hurt either.

After the Col de Menté, we also did this climb. It's only about 5-6 km, but it's very tough. Constant8-10 %. I was quite exhausted after the Menté and the temperature had risen to heatwave level. So this was a real struggle. I did not enjoy this climb much. Out of respect, stop at the monument to Casartelli.

The Col d' Aspet climbed from both sides. The warming up started with a climb from Audressein. To my great surprise, I was up there within 18 minutes. This could not be right but it was so. So a few days later I made the climb from Aspet. This was a different kettle of fish, what a tough climb! Okay, I am a beginner with only 3 years of cycling experience.
Right at the start, a short vicious climb that takes your breath away. After that, it's off and on in reasonable doing to calves-biting stretches. After the climb I could only conclude that from Audressein it is a breeze compared to the other side. All in all a great experience!

From the exit of the Col de Menté it is a short and vicious climb. I find it hard to decide how to take it, full on or in moderation. If it is your first climb of the day you can go full on, but your heart rate will skyrocket. There are two sections with 17% (according to the signs). The descent back to Aspet is indeed quite dangerous. Not for nothing that this has become fatal for Fabio Casartelli.

Vol erop, of gedoseerd.

I had this side as a descent. As a climb probably much harder than the western side from Audressein. Only advantage is the shelter from the sun in the cooling gorge. Narrow, technical descent. If you let go of the brakes for a moment you're on the 70. Beware of places that stay wet for a long time under the trees!

Linke, technische afdaling.
