Easy crossing from East to West if you don't want to go via the Tourmalet, but also if you don't want to go via the busy motorway to Lourdes. It is above all a beautiful route. The climb is actually a collection of short steps and actually I did not feel that this was a climb, except that you go up and down continuously and on this part a bit more up. The last part is still very vicious, but this is a short piece. Here you have a really nice view towards the flat land north of the Pyre... read more

Nice climb, with steep gradients in places, past the Montaigu hospital and through the village of Neuilh. You can start from Trébons, following the little stream, the Oussouet. Beautiful views from the summit.

What a surprise. After riding the Tourmalet, we looked for a way back towards Argeles-Ghazost. This road makes cycling beautiful: a cross between Luxembourg, Ardennes and Vosges. Views over the valley beyond the Pyrenees. Biggest surprise of the week. Do it!

Doen!

There are two easy alternatives from Bagnères-de-Bigorre to Lourdes and beyond (Argèles-Gazost for example) and this is the slightly more difficult - but also more quiet - alternative considering the steep Croix Blanche "detour". Also in the opposite direction, via Col de Lingous, both alternatives are nice.

What Robert says is absolutely right. The climb is otherwise really beautiful with a killer of an ending. Quite steep for quite a long time, in the burning sun. But pooh, what a beautiful view at the end.

Here you have a really nice view towards the flat land north of the Pyrenees. Especially in the village of Neuilh, make sure you don't turn right following the road, but that you follow the sign to La Croix Blanche (it is indicated, but very small). If you follow the road anyway, you'll end up on the same road, but you'll miss the last steep part. Could also be a consideration ;-)
