Nice and fairly even climb. From Laruns, you dive straight into the forest. Especially on a hot day, this provides a bit of refreshment. Special point in the climb is the ghost village of Eaux-Bonnes. This abandoned resort is like a film set. Special to take a look around here. After the ugly ski resort of Gourette, the climb gets its scenic views. At the top, you have a magnificent view and a good lunch.
Mooie en redelijk gelijkmatige klim. Vanuit Laruns duik je direct het bos in. Zeker op een warme dag zorgt dit voor een beetje verkoeling. Bijzonder punt in de beklimming is het spookdorp Eaux-Bonnes. Dit verlaten resort is net een filmset. Bijzonder om hier even om je heen te kijken. Na het lelijke ski resort Gourette krijgt de beklimming haar mooie vergezichten. Boven aan de top heb je een schitterend uitzicht en kun je goed lunchen.

Beautiful, varied climb. Quite quiet as it is not a real through road. Watch out for possible vultures. The stretch from Aubisque to Soulor is 1 of the most beautiful roads I know.

i rode up from Laruns on a Monday (17/9/24) and there was a medium amount of traffic inc. rows of motorbikes so that's the worst part of such a famous climb. the initial few kms are easy, the last 4kms are much steeper. the road signs said average km of: "10％, 8％, 10％ and 8％" so not the same as on this website. a stunning climb, bottom half in lovely shade. descent off the top few kms to Gourette is rather exciting.
The climb from Laruns is obviously shorter than from Argeles Gazost (which is actually the climb of the Soulor).
The climbing actually starts right after the turn-off. You ride the first part under the trees which is very nice in August. This part is also very beautiful. The last part is bare but then you are almost there.

Het klimwerk begint eigenlijk meteen na de afslag. Je rijdt het eerste deel onder de bomen wat in augustus zeer fijn is. Dit deel is ook erg mooi. Het laatste stuk is kaal maar dan ben je er al bijna.
I give the climb 5 stars. Actually, mainly because after the summit, the stretch to the top of the Soulor is really incredibly beautiful. For me, that was the reward of the climb, which I found pretty tough. The first kilometres are easy. You keep seeing a new sign with info about the next kilometre. 5％, 4％, 5％ etc in the beginning. Relaxed, you think. But you pay the price for that later because the second half of the climb the signs continuously indicate 8％ or 10％. There was also little shade which made it extra tough with the hot sun.
Ik geef de klim 5 sterren. Eigenlijk vooral omdat het ná de top, het stuk tot de top van de Soulor, echt ongelofelijk mooi is. Dat was voor mij de beloning van de beklimming, die ik behoorlijk zwaar vond. De eerste kilometers zijn makkelijk. Je ziet steeds weer een nieuw bordje met info over de komende kilometer. 5％, 4％, 5％ etc. in het begin. Relaxed, denk je dan. Maar daar betaal je later wel de prijs voor want de tweede helft van de klim geven de bordjes continu 8％ of 10％ aan. Ook was er weinig schaduw wat het met de warme zon extra zwaar maakte.
Climbed from the pretty village of Laruns to the top of the Aubisque after first climbing from Argeles and descending to Laruns. This side is shorter, but on average steeper. Argeles side is rugged, this side is much greener. On the way you pass a village and a ghost village. The last 5 km we rode in the clouds. Nothing could be seen at the summit by now. Very much worth it!
Vanuit het mooie dorpje Laruns geklommen naar de top van de Aubisque nadat we eerst vanuit Argeles geklommen zijn en naar Laruns afgedaald zijn. Deze zijde is korter, maar gemiddeld steiler. Argeles-kant is ruig, deze zijde is veel groener. Onderweg passeer je een dorpje en een spookdorpje. De laatste 5 km reden we in de wolken. Op de top was inmiddels niets meer te zien. Zeer zeker de moeite waard!

Nice, tough and fun climb, but quite doable. Lots of cycling history, but otherwise it doesn't stand out in any other way, positive or negative. Then the side from Argelès-Gazost is nicer, but less tough.
Mooie, stevige en leuke klim, maar goed doenbaar. Veel wielergeschiedenis, maar voorts springt hij er ook op geen enkele andere manier uit, positief nog negatief. Dan is de kant vanuit Argelès-Gazost mooier, maar minder zwaar.

You climb super through the tunnels, light is not necessary
Then you get to Beost ski village then another 4km climb to the top of this amazing mountain!

Ideal weather, little traffic, no wind, it's a beautiful climb, long and sometimes very difficult, but what a pleasure! The descent is a well-deserved reward, with a magnificent view all the way.
Temps idéal, peu de trafic, pas de vent, c'est une belle montée, longue et parfois très difficile, mais quel plaisir ! La descente est une récompense bien méritée, avec une vue magnifique tout le long.
Beautiful and tough climb from Laruns, great views, super descent via the Col de Soulor to Ferrieres, Asson.
I did this on a beautiful Sunday in summer, so quite busy on the road, and certainly on the col itself. In the descent, be aware of campers and other road users who (partially) block the road. But otherwise really worth it!
Prachtige en zware klim vanuit Laruns, geweldig uitzicht, super afdaling via de Col de Soulor naar Ferrieres, Asson.
Ik deed deze op een mooie zondag in de zomer, dus wel behoorlijk druk op de weg, en zeker op de col zelf. In de afdaling rekening houden met campers en andere weggebruikers die de weg (deels) blokkeren. Maar verder echt de moeite!
What a beautiful climb and what beautiful views. I think this is one of the most beautiful cols I have ever ridden. The road is fine. After the ski village of Gourette, the steepest part starts but feel free to stop on the wrong side of the road to enjoy the view. If you are at the top of the Soulor descends a bit to drive on a narrow road on the side of the mountain first slightly descends and then rises. There are also a few tunnels in which one is very dark. the view is fantastic there too.
Wat een mooie beklimming en wat een mooie uitzichten. Dit is denk één van de mooiste cols die ik gereden heb. De weg is prima. Na het skidorp Gourette begint het steilste stuk maar stop gerust even aan de verkeerde kant van de weg om van het uitzicht te genieten. Als je op de top nog een stukje afdaalt naar de Soulor rij je over een smalle weg die aan de zijkant van de berg eerst iets daalt en dan weer stijgt. Er zitten ook een paar tunnels er in waarvan een erg donker. het uitzicht is daar ook fantastische.
Very pleasant climb especially after Eaux-Bonnes. Even if the slope is steeper, the view is magnificent as soon as you see the resort of Gourette. Do not hesitate to continue on the Soulor pass...
Montée très agréable surtout après Eaux-Bonnes. Même si la pente est plus forte, la vue est magnifique dès qu'on aperçoit la station de Gourette. Ne pas hésiter à continuer sur le col du Soulor...
