I rode this climb in April and it started well with an initial ascent up a narrow lane between grassy banks covered in bluebells and primroses. That was as good as it got. The road surface then deteriorated dramatically with several 100m's where it resembled a rough farm track devoid of any significant tarmac. There were some better sections (fortunately on the steeper parts) but it's not a good climb. However all was soon forgotten as the descent from the top of the climb along the B5105 to Ruthin was excellent - 6km of perfect, smooth, tarmac with sweeping curves and a descent of around 200m.
