Tackled in early May, but had to stop about 5 km from the summit because of snow on the road.
The climb is challenging, especially in the section immediately after leaving Lettomanoppello, where the gradients get really tough. Once you reach Passo Lanciano, the road becomes more rideable and the climb proceeds much more smoothly.
Excellent asphalt throughout the climb and also on the descent.
Starting from Scafa (50m asl), the climb begins gentle and rideable until the junction for Pretoro: there begins the real ascent with percentages between 8 and 10% to the top. The landscape provides everything from a hilly area to a beautiful beech forest and a panoramic view of the Pescara valley. The road surface is perfect (except for the last 2 km) and the traffic is fairly light.
Great climb with distant views of Monte Amaro and the Adriatic coast. The last 2km as indicated on this site are not passable on a bicycle. The climb ends at 2068m. Generally good road surface. Last km from Fonte Tettone is brand new asphalt. Last km is very moderate and only accessible for cyclists/hikers.
Laatste kilometers vanaf Fonte Tettone is gloednieuw asfalt.
