Done on Tuesday 8 August 2023. Although I live in the region, it's the first time I've done this climb, and it has to be said that it's a long way from Albertville to the foot of the ascent. After a quick coffee in Ugine, I took the Rte de Héry to join the Rte des Gorges de l'Arly (with its heavy traffic) at the Pont de Flon.
The ascent begins just before St Nicolas la Chapelle, a charming little Haut Savoyard village that you don't pass through by taking the Rte des Combes on the right.
There are still 5 kilometres to go on a small road lined with magnificent wooden chalets decorated with flowers in keeping with the region's image.
The views get better and better as you approach Chaucisse.
There are places to eat in the village, but I preferred to go down to Flumet.
I hope that adding this place to Climbfinder will raise its profile.
