Barton Lane starts in a small trading estate but very soon is among hedgerows and fields. The slopes are never easy but things get much harder just when you don't want it - on a cattle grid! It continues fairly steep to the golf club entrance, where in the absence of prohibition signs we gambled on riding up through the links on a good tarmac track, which is not very steep. We were never challenged by the golfers, and in this way we added an extra 50m elevation and had fine views from the hilltop over the surrounding countryside. The golf course section is not shown on the profile here, and I guess it is a case of 'enter at your own risk'
