And before you get to the top, you have already climbed quite a bit. Good road surface, little traffic (August) and the traffic that is there takes cyclists well into account. Tip: Turn left 100m before the top towards 'Barranco de Ye' for a beautiful piece of extra descent and climb (photo 3+4), this is also the connection with the descent of La Concepción towards Tijoco Bajo.... read more

I found this pretty tough going… partly due to the heat, but mainly the sustained 8-12% gradient… very little let up. Glad I did it, but would argue the scenery isn’t as spectacular as many many climbs in Tenerife. I certainly wouldn’t bother to do it again unless it was a training type ride. The road surface was pretty good, but the decent (if you take a right at the top) was a little sketchy and technical… be careful here.
Worth it for the coffee stop at the top. But fairly hard hair-pin to hair pin with very little rest periods and almost zero shade. Becareful of the descent on the other side, worst one on the island. Road condition is horrible and stew sections into random bends.
Depending on fitness level and gearing, this climb could be a shock to the system. The first 500m out of the small town has a series of about 4 or 5 hairpins 50-100m apart at about 15%. Thankfully it levels out at 9% for the next 6km. As Cafe Taucho was shut today (Wednesday) the was very little bike traffic. A few cars, all respectful when overtaking. Amazing views, to be level with the clouds over Lanzarote in the distance. Breathtaking. I rode the climb on the 35 front chain ring and 36 rear cog. Could really have done with 34 front or smaller. It was just about do-able for me and it was a relief to find the gradient levelling off to 4% as I neared the top.
Very nice running climb, steep but definitely doable with a mountain gear. If you like hairpin bends then this is a climb to savour. And both the tarmac up and down (via Ye / La Conception) are really beautiful
For those who like hard but steady climbs, with many hairpin turns that offer an absolutely magnificent view, this climb is a must!
Yes! Great climb. Great concrete. It’s tough. But quite consistently tough. Gradient always feels to be around 9/10%. Only downside is that you’ll take the same road down
