... read more

Added this climb after the Petit Saint Bernard. This a typical ski resort climb, nowhere super steep, max 8% and good asphalt. Nice views of the valley of Bourg Saint Maurice, but 's afternoon is well in the sun, hot so. In terms of traffic I wasn't too bad, the occasional big truck going up, but basically everyone overtakes very nicely and quietly.

We did the ascent of Les Arcs 1800 because we had heard that it was interesting for novices like us.
The road is not very good and there is a lot of traffic. Nevertheless, the climb was pleasant with the view of Bourg St Maurice and Mont Blanc.
No worries about orientation with the markers confirming that you are on the right path.
Very proud to have been able to make this climb!

Staying at the foot of climbing classics (Cormet de Roselend / Petit St. Bernard/ Iseran), a climb to one of Les Arcs' four ski resorts was not so immediately inviting or top priority on my bucket list.
Last day of my cycling&hiking holiday (September 2022) I finally cycled up the climb to Arc 1800.
Typical wide road built to get as many winter sportsmen as possible safely to their respective final destination by car. Starts down in Bourg St.Maurice near the Funiculaire (mountain railway),which you will cycle under several times along the way. Route winds up the green mountainside with some hairpin turns and sporadic wide panoramas's into which your departure town sinks deeper.
Roundabouts along the way let you choose between Arc 2000 - 1950 - 1600 or, in my case, 1800 as your destination. Just before you reach the summer deserted ugly ski village with high-rise buildings and car parks it goes downhill for a while.
Fairly regular climb without extreme passages but still quite spicy. Fast-moving traffic though. White yellow bike info posts every kilometre (distance to finish / % next km./ altitude) are on post.

Not so immediately recommended with the wonderful Alpine routes around Bourg St. Maurice as competitors!
