The climb from Edolo to Aprica is rather easy; it makes sense if it is included in a tour with other climbs in the area, first and foremost the Mortirolo. Good terrain, some traffic, especially at weekends. I would suggest the alternative of the almost traffic-free road that from Edolo passes through Santicolo and rejoins Corteno Golgi (with a few more metres of elevation gain).... read more

There's an alternative to the Mortirolo to be had. Cycle up to Aprica, then follow the Trivigno climb described on this site and on to the end of the Valico di Baite Salema, then on to the end of Passo di Guspessa, then following the undulating road towards the Mortirolo. Nice views here and there during the "traverse".

I wouldn't do that as a descent; lousy road surface and blind curves... The SS39 may be busier, but it is a nicer ride.

Easy climb, although it can feel long if you have already done some kilometres/metres. Quite busy, but not unsafe. Bring lights, especially for the tunnels!
