A must do if you are in this region. The climb of Alejandro Valverde who storms up here as if it were a viaduct. When he is home on Sunday he goes for a ride with anyone who wants one from Murcia, usually over the Cabezo and he is guaranteed to be the first on top. In 2020, the tarmac was renewed here and there, which was necessary, although the road is little used. From my flat it is 23 km to the top and when I leave in the morning I encounter an average of 3 cars until I enjoy the view at the top. The climb starts irregularly and the road is wide, once after the village the road becomes narrower and it is very quiet around you. The climb continues nicely and after about 6 km it starts to climb. The percentages on the profile are very moderate because 10% is a regular occurrence, the heat in summer does not help either and you are glad when the wind comes over the mountain and blows in your face.
The devil is in the tail, the road surface is also the worst here. When you get to the top, stop for a photo. My feeling from the first time was always as if I had landed in a western area. The question from Eagle Eye was always: where are the Indians!
A nice climb through a quiet area where you can pedal nicely.
