The Alto de La Farrapona as the Spaniards call it is a beautiful col in the Cantabrian Mountains or better said the Asturia where so many fantastic cols can be found. Think of the monster of the Asturias, the Angliru. Who finds the Angliru a bit too much can enjoy the Alto de Farrapona. The road is not too wide and very pleasant. Along the way you have some protection by the trees or mountainside on your right side and that especially in the last part. This col is regularly on the menu of the ... read more

The ascent of the Farrapona was the highlight of the Clasica Puerto de Somiedo. In an oasis of tranquility you cycle through a beautiful natural park and you really need to see something. The perfect asphalted road gets really steep in the final kilometers. This is enjoying from the first till the last kilometer. Fantastic!

Fantastisch!

This col is regularly on the menu of the Tour of Spain as was the case last year and the day before the Angliru of note.
The last 6 km go constantly at 9% percent upwards with here and there double digits.
At the top, just past the parking lot, you have a beautiful view of all the cols, and there are many in the immediate area.
An absolute must.
