Alpe Sacchi from Varallo Sesia

An ascent that begins on the provincial road from Varallo Sesia up to Camasco, at the fork for Morondo. Up to that point it has a gentle slope. Then from the crossroads to Morondo it becomes more demanding and then becomes difficult after the village of Morondo and up to an overhang at a small chapel. In this section the gradients are tough (13-15％), continuous with no stretch to rest. After the hard stretch, the climb becomes less difficult and alternates between almost flat passages and steep climbs, the little road runs along a ridge around Monte Massaro until the final stretch at Alpe Pleviano, where the asphalt road ends and continues on a flat dirt road to Alpe Sacchi. The views of Alpe Pleviano and Lake D'orta and Mottarone are particularly impressive. Unfortunately the asphalt is not in good condition and some stretches (fortunately on the level) have been covered with mud and debris. Particular care must therefore be taken when descending due to the poor condition of the road and the scarce but present vehicular traffic, especially at weekends: a crossing with a motor vehicle is very treacherous at certain junctures.

Demanding climb in the second part and partly in the final where the gradients are always in double figures.
When you come out of the forest, a beautiful view of Lake Orta.
At the end of the asphalt road you can continue for 500 metres on the flat and arrive at the Alpe Sacchi refuge where, in addition to possible refreshments, you can refill your water bottle.
