A very good climb for a cyclist looking to tackle steep gradients. The road is in perfect condition and climbs through the forest. Between 9 and 12% for almost 4 km. The second half is less difficult with the exception of one km at 10-12%. This road can be very busy with cars, but if you set off early enough in the morning (until around 10am) the road is quiet. On the descent, the road is very winding and visibility around bends can be limited.... read more

This is a very tough climb, heavily waived. The climb is not long, but very erratic. Several steep walls (up to 14%) interspersed with running sections, interspersed continuously. It does please that the initial section is through the forest. Very good road surface, and very courteous drivers (they stay behind you the whole time, when they have no visibility with the curves). Also a great descent to get to the foot (if you come from the hornisgrinde)

As a descent I found this one difficult: very winding road (bends not easy to see), irregular gradients, and a continuous alternation of shade and sun. Much nicer (and much quieter in traffic) is the ascent of the Zuflucht via Maisach and the Werneststraße, which leads for a while through an open valley before you enter the forest (in contrast to the main road, which enters the forest almost immediately at its foot).

You really shouldn't underestimate the climb. For me it came at the end of a long tour and it was over 30 degrees hot. But the good news: About halfway up the climb there is a fountain with ice-cold water.

A merciless climb that is dying from beginning to end. The climb is actually completely situated in a forest, so for the views you should not do this climb. Plus point is that the climb is preceded by a beautiful, fast descent! (If you come from the Hornisgrinde) The traffic is on the busy side, but you have actually no problems because the drivers behind you waiting until they can pass without you rushing.
