Road name: Dragon Hill Road

Can't believe this is the first review of such an iconic climb. If your cycling anywhere nearby this is a must. The climb is not as steep as remember it as a kid but a real leg tester. Quite short and not brutally steep but the history!!! The White Horse is a globally recognised ancient monument. Stop at the top and breath in 5000 years of history. If you have a gravel bike keep on climbing on to the ridgeway to follow the ancient road. A must!! ... read more

What a climb! Impeccable views from the summit over the vale of the white horse. If you take a ride up to the ridgeway you can get a fantastic view of the way you came and the white horse.

I did this climb on Maunday Thursday at around 10:30 am on a sunny day during the school holidays and didn't encounter a single car. Maybe I was lucky but it seems that the majority of cars use the Woolstone Hill (western) approach as that is the side where the main car park is. The situation of the climb is stunning and the tarmac surface is suprisingly good (in sharp contrast to the alternative Woolstone Hill approach.

Short, steep and stunning. Plus an ancient artwork of a horse. Be careful in winter: its north facing and steep enough not to get any sun, so can be icy.
