Korte maar felle klim die meteen steil begint. Je moet direct aanzetten en komt niet echt in een ritme. Boven vlakt het snel af richting het huis. Typische Limburgse kuitenbijter.
This is short and very powerful. I find it a bit like the little brother of the Cross Mountain and the big brother of the Green Valley Mountain. Because they have now made a cycle path along the road, you have to be lucky if you can cross right away, because if you have to start from a stationary position it becomes even harder. It was my 2nd climb in Limburgs Mooiste 2025 so I was still fresh and did it quite easily. If it's at the end then it will be stumbling.
Dit is kort en heel krachtig. Ik vind hem een beetje lijken op het kleine broertje van de kruisberg en de grote broer van de groenendalsberg. Doordat ze nu een fietspad hebben gemaakt langs de weg moet je geluk hebben dat je gelijk kan oversteken, want als je vanuit stilstaande positie moet vertrekken wordt het nog zwaarder. Het was mijn 2e klim in Limburgs Mooiste 2025 en dus nog fris en deed hem vrij makkelijk. Zit ie aan het eind dan zal het stoempen worden.

Short and fierce this climb can be called. From the Vrakelbergweg you immediately go up steeply between the trees. Only at the first house on the left of the road does it level off and you are almost at the top.
Kort en heftig mag deze klim wel genoemd worden. Vanaf de Vrakelbergweg ga je gelijk steil tussen de bomen omhoog. Pas bij het 1e huis links van de weg vlakt het af en ben je nagenoeg op de top.
A calf biter that I think is often underestimated because this is not one of Limburg's better-known climbs. Unjustified because it's a false one! Listier but fun alternative to the Fromberg.

The Vrakelberg may well be called a calf-biter. The first few metres are manageable, but in the gentle curves the percentages rise to over 10％ and it is a tough climb. When the house on your left comes into sight, the worst is over and it flattens out.
De Vrakelberg mag je best een kuitenbijter noemen. De eerste meters gaan nog maar in de flauwe bochten lopen percentages op tot boven de 10％ en is het flink harken. Wanneer het huis aan je linkerzijde in zicht komt heb je het ergste achter de rug en vlakt het af.
Short but quite powerful! At the start the road goes steep up and diagonally to the right and looking up you see the bench and the sign high above you. That does not really motivate ;-). It's really continuous hard pedaling until you reach the curve to the left, then it quickly flattens out and at the house it's all over. All in all, a must.
When I cycled this, the meadow on the right was one big sea of poppies. Beautiful!
The road has just been tarmacked in a number of places. There is also a lot of gravel (now) so descending is not recommended.
Kort maar behoorlijk krachtig! Bij de start gaat de weg meteen steil omhoog en schuin naar rechts en naar boven kijkend zie je hoog boven je het bankje en het bord staan. Dat motiveert niet echt ;-). Het is echt doorlopend hard trappen tot je bij de bocht naar links bent, daarna wordt het snel vlakker en bij het huis is het wel over. Al met al een aanrader.
Toen ik deze fietste was het weiland rechts één grote zee van klaprozen. Prachtig!
De weg is net op een aantal plaatsen geasfalteerd. Er ligt (nu) ook veel grind dus afdalen is niet aan te raden.

I just discovered it recently. Normally I took the Fromberg after the Eyserbosweg. I really liked it, a short and steep climb. It looks a bit like the Kruisberg. If you take the Karstraat after Vrakelberg straight ahead, you get a very nice and long descent where you can raise your average (which was just lowered by the Vrakelberg) again.
Ik heb hem sinds kort pas ontdekt. Normaal pakte ik na de Eyserbosweg altijd de Fromberg. Het beviel me erg goed, een lekker kort en steil klimmetje. Het heeft een klein beetje weg van de Kruisberg. Als je na de Vrakelberg rechtdoor de Karstraat neemt krijg je een hele fijne en lange afdaling waar je je gemiddelde (dat net omlaag getrokken is door de Vrakelberg) weer helemaal omhoog kan halen.
One of the hidden climbs in Limburg, some tours include it but most don't. The Vrakelbergerweg runs through the dry valley of Colmont and a lot of local cyclists come here to cycle around so they can take on a lot of climbs. With Etenaken and Ubachsberg as endpoints you can ride, climb and rest in peace.
The Vrakelberg is one of the short steep climbs you often find in Limburg. It's a real strain on the calves and you need to have a good basic condition to keep it up for hours.

De Vrakelbergerweg loopt door het Droogdal van Colmont en veel lokale fietsers komen hier om "rondjes" te fietsen zodat ze snel veel klimmetjes kunnen pakken. Met Etenaken en Ubachsberg als eindpunten kun je heerlijk rustig rijden, klimmen en rusten.
De Vrakelberg is een van de korte steile klimmetjes die je veel in Limburg treft. Echte kuitenbijters en waar je veel basis conditie moet hebben om het uren vol te houden.
