In questo tratto si affrontano le pendenze più ostiche, anche over 10％ in corrispondenza di una piccola serie di tornantini. Quando la strada tende a effettuare una lunga curva destrorsa (che aggira il parco di Villa Toeplitz), la pendenza torna più gestibile fino a quasi diventare nulla fino all'ultimo strappetto che immette sulla via che collega Varese a S. Ambrogio e Fogliaro. Qualche anno fa era inclusa nelle tre valli varesine come ultima asperità prima dell'arrivo in centro.
