The climb is very beautiful and enjoyable, although the current condition of the asphalt after the first kilometre is not perfect; information signs have been added on the climb at every kilometre and at points of interest that I did not remember before, which testifies to the attention that is paid to cyclists, which is very rare in these parts. The only flaw remains that you have to go up and down the same road.
La salita è molto bella e godibile, anche se le condizioni attuali dell'asfalto dopo il 1°km non sono perfette; sono stati aggiunti dei cartelli informativi sulla salita ad ogni km e nei punti di interesse che non ricordavo prima, questo testimonia l'attenzione che si ha per i frequentatori ciclisti, molto rara da queste parti. L'unica pecca rimane quella che si deve salire e scendere dalla stessa strada.
The climb is quite well known in the area as it is dedicated to the late Michele Scarponi, who won the final stage of the 2011 Giro Di Sardegna on this very climb; you will find a plaque at the start of the climb and at the finish line on the Giara plateau, famous for its almost unspoilt habitat of oaks and marshes and for its little horses.
The road is quite wide and the road surface is always in good condition. Generally speaking, you will find little traffic but on some days you may find a little traffic, although there are signs warning motorists of the presence of cyclists, which testifies to a special attention to cyclists that is very rare in Sardinia. The asphalt road ends once you arrive on the plateau, so you will be forced to make your way back as well.
La salita è abbastanza nota nella zona in quanto dedicata allo scomparso Michele Scarponi che vinse la tappa conclusiva del Giro Di Sardegna 2011 proprio in questa salita; troverete una targa a inizio salita e all'arrivo sull'altopiano della Giara famoso per l'habitat quasi incontaminato di querce e acquitrini e per i suoi cavallini, qui troverete anche un punto ristoro, aperto stagionalmente, da cui partono anche escursioni.
Parlando della salita vera e propria, si può dire che è regolare e abbastanza corta ma godibile con un bel panorama che spazia sulla Marmilla, piuttosto calda d'estate in quanto è molto soleggiata; la strada è abbastanza ampia e il fondo è sempre in buone condizioni, in genere troverete poco traffico ma in alcune giornate potrete trovare un un po' di traffico anche se sono presenti dei cartelli che avvisano gli automobilisti della presenza di ciclisti che testimonia un'attenzione particolare per il ciclista molto rara in Sardegna. La strada asfaltata finisce una volta arrivati sull'altopiano per cui sarete costretti a fare la strada anche a ritroso.
