Mythical climb for those in the area. Not particularly difficult, but long and with some pitfalls that you should be aware of.
The first part up to Levo is rideable, with no prohibitive gradients, but what can make it hellish is the heat. It is completely exposed to the sun and in the middle of summer it is good to hydrate a lot and lower your body temperature. At Levo there is a wonderful fountain of fresh, delicious water.
The middle section alternates between some interesting climbs and counter-slope sections where it is difficult to find the rhythm. From the Adventure Park onwards the climb gets really tough, the last 3/4 km have decidedly higher gradients with no stretches to catch your breath. A finale that can ask the bill and send the inattentive cyclist into crisis. It is good to take care of nutrition during the ascent.
Mitica salita per chi è della zona. Non particolarmente difficile ma lunga e con qualche insidia che è bene conoscere.
La prima parte fino a Levo è pedalabile, senza pendenze proibitive, ma quello che può renderla infernale è il caldo. Resta completamente esposta al sole e in piena estate è bene idratarsi molto e abbassare la temperatura corporea. A Levo meravigliosa la fontana di acqua freschissima e buonissima.
La parte centrale si alterna con qualche strappo interessante e tratti in contropendenza in cui è difficile trovare il ritmo. Dal Parco Avventura in poi la salita si fa davvero dura, gli ultimi 3/4 km hanno pendenze decisamente più alte senza tratti per riprendere fiato. Un finale che può chiedere il conto e mandare in crisi il ciclista poco attento. È bene curare l’alimentazione durante l’ascesa.
From the campsite about's 4km of flat riding and from the main road in Baveno it went straight up steeply, This road ripples up through the residential areas until you are at about 600hm and get to the final climb (Via Golf Panorama). The roads are Italian messy with poor tarmac. Only once you pass the unmanned toll booths (of a national park or the like) at 900hm, the road surface becomes fine and the scenery gorgeous, just a slight bit of descending and catching your breath before it snaps back up nicely. At the top, stunning views over several lakes. The descent on the other side with better tarmac is finer!
Vanaf de camping zo'n 4km vlak gereden en op de hoofdweg aan de noordkant van Baveno ging het rechtsaf direct stijl omhoog, Deze weg kabbelt door de woonwijken omhoog totdat je op ca. 600hm zit en op de uiteindelijke klim (Via Golf Panorama) komt. De wegen zijn Italiaans rommelig met slecht asfalt. Pas als je de onbemande tolpoortjes (van een nationaal park o.i.d.) op 900hm voorbij bent, wordt het wegdek prima en de natuur schitterend, even een licht stukje dalen en op adem komen voordat het weer lekker omhoog knalt. Boven een prachtig uitzicht over meerdere meren. De afdaling aan de andere kant met beter asfalt is fijner!
Beautiful views of Laggo Maggiore as noted earlier and towards the summit, the scenery also becomes more beautiful as you drive into the woods. Sometimes there is an open area in the forest through which you can get a view of the summit. In terms of cycling, mostly an irregular climb, sometimes it runs and sometimes very steep, for instance there are a couple of hairpin turns halfway up that test the legs well. At the summit is a little restaurant where you can recover and enjoy the view towards the Alps. Incidentally, a tour around Lake Orta is also worthwhile, can be busy in terms of traffic, but much less massive as nearby Maggiore.
Prachtige uitzichten op Laggo Maggiore zoals eerder opgemerkt en richting de top wordt de omgeving ook mooier doordat je de bossen inrijdt. Soms is er in het bos een open gebied waardoor je een blik kan werpen op de top. Qua fietsen vooral een onregelmatige klim, soms loopt het en dan weer erg stijl, zo zijn er halverwege een paar haarspeldbochten die de benen goed testen. Op de top bevindt zich een restaurantje waar je kan bijkomen en kan genieten van het uitzicht richting de Alpen. Overigens is een rondje rond het Ortameer ook de moeite waard, kan wel druk zijn qua verkeer, maar veel minder massaal als het nabijgelegen Maggiore.

Voortdurend zicht op laggo maggiore. De klim begint met stijgingen % rond vier procent, maar wordt steeds steiler. Laatstw zes kilometer met korte stukken van 12 tot 14 procent. Het venijn zit in de staart van de klim. Absoluut de moeite en de inspannning waard!
Beautiful climb! The road from Baveno offers beautiful views of Lake Maggiore. I drove up at the end of the afternoon on Thursday, when there was hardly any traffic even during rush hour. The climb has two descending sections with the second section having a much longer ascent than I expected. So keep eating well! The Strada privata through the forest is beautiful and serene, the view at the top likewise. Very worthwhile as far as I'm concerned.
Mooie beklimming! De weg vanuit Baveno biedt mooie doorzichten op het Lago Maggiore. Ik reed op donderdag aan het einde van de middag naar boven en toen was er zelfs in de spits maar nauwelijks verkeer. De klim kent twee dalende stukken waarbij het na het tweede stuk nog veel langer stijgt dan ik had verwacht. Blijf dus goed eten! De Strada privata door het bos is prachtig en sereen, het uitzicht op de top eveneens. Zeer de moeite waard wat mij betreft.
