In the beautiful Rijksdorp villa district, there is a quiet road sheltered by trees. This road brings you to the top of the Van Bergenlaan: a nice slope with a surprising gradient. The bricks lie crooked in the road and that makes it all just a little bit more challenging. In the first place it is a good part to race hard and show your explosiveness, because the climb is over before you have even started. Therefore, it has little to do with climbing, but the power hitters can certainly get their money's worth here. This slope is located near the old bunker complex east of the Wassenaarse Slag. The combination of the surroundings, the bricks and the gradient make the Van Bergenlaan in my opinion a better climb than its famous neighbour, and definitely one of the few passable roads with a gradient up to 8-9％ in the region.
In de prachtige villawijk Rijksdorp ligt een rustige weg beschut tussen de bomen. Deze weg brengt je tot de top van de Van Bergenlaan: een leuke helling met een verrassend stijgingspercentage. De klinkertjes liggen krom in de weg en dat maakt het allemaal net wat uitdagender. Het is in de eerste plaats vooral een goed stuk om hard tegenop te knallen en je explosiviteit te tonen, want de klim is over voordat je goed en wel bent begonnen. Met klimmen heeft het daarom ook weinig te maken, maar de krachtpatsers kunnen hier zeker aan hun trekken komen. Deze helling ligt nabij het oude bunkercomplex ten oosten van de Wassenaarse Slag. De combinatie van omgeving, klinkers, en stijgingspercentage maken de Van Bergenlaan mijns inzien een leukere klim dan haar bekende buurman, en absoluut een van de weinige begaanbare wegen met een stijgingspercentage tot 8-9％ in de regio.
Nice to do if you are already planning to go into the dunes at Wassenaar. You can't really call it a climb, with a run up it is easy. But, for the flat area this is indeed a real climb. Be careful when it is wet: the cobblestones can be slippery.
Leuk om te doen als je al van plan bent om bij Wassenaar de duinen in te gaan. Echt klimmen kun je het niet noemen, met een aanloopje ben je zo boven. Maar, voor de vlakke omgeving is dit inderdaad een echte klim. Let op als het nat is: de klinkertjes kunnen glad zijn
