This beautiful col in the province of Malaga in southern Spain is linked to the historic town of Antequera. The climb and the surroundings are simply fantastic because of the many rocks carved out by the water many thousands of years ago, also called the pancake mountains. The karst rocks were also the dwelling places of the Moors and Romans. But back to the climb which has a great profile for the average cyclist. The road is quite wide on this side but alternately you'll find asphalt and concrete on top and sometimes a bit rougher. The first 2 km are pretty tough with almost constantly double figures. After that you can let your legs cool down because gradually the climb becomes less steep and around km 6 it's even almost flat but that's only for a short while because the last 3 km are the toughest with constant averages above 10% and peaks up to 15%; The descent is great because in this very hot region there is no shade during the climb but you can cool down by the air. Be careful because the road is narrower and you don't always see other cars coming because of the many bends. Only by his special rock construction a must.
