Absolute carnage!
You just have to attack it from the word go, as heard as you can for as long as your legs can take it. The surface is mental - rough, chaotic - and you just have to find a balance between traction and navigating the gaps in the cobbles. When you see the barn on your left you're nearly there so just keep pushing on until the gate at the top.
Descending is mad! In the dry is fun but I can imagine in damp conditions it's terrifying... but then again, in the damp I doubt you'd even make it up!
