2.5 stars, I'd say. It's worth giving it a go once for a change, but I'd rather do the Bemelerberg any day of the week. Not particularly difficult, it does have a brief section where the gradient goes up in the double digits: probably the main difference with the Bemelerberg which, instead, is fairly regular and never reaches very steep gradients. The lack of scenery also makes me prefer the Bemelerberg: this one runs on a relatively quiet, but also not particularly pretty road... read more

Nice alternative if you don't want to climb Bemelerberg for the umpteenth time.

If you want a change from going via Bemelerberg to Cadier en Keer, this is an alternative. In the middle of Bemelen, turn onto the St. Laurentiusstraat. Until the bend to the left, it goes up slightly. From the bend you descend a bit and turn right onto St. Antoniusbank where the actual climb starts. The heaviest 100 metres are about halfway up this climb section.

The actual ascent only begins after the short descent. It is quite green, with little traffic and good tarmac. As already described, the climb is not particularly difficult compared to other climbs with similar mountain points.

The first part between the houses of Bemelen and Sint-Antoniusbank is very light (and with a small downhill) and could be skipped, although it has some nice bends. Then the surroundings become greener and the climb a lot harder. The road goes up slightly in a meander with sometimes steep percentages with just before the bush on the left the hardest part. After the grove, the road flattens out with a clear curve and it is down to the sports fields.

A climb in two parts. First from Bemelen to Sint Antoniusbank, an easy part. Then after the double turn the second part to Cadier en Keer. This part is much more spicy and reaches the 10% plus easily. The second part is in a deeply cut road and therefore very narrow. If a car or if you are unlucky a tractor passes by, pay attention. Was once one of the climbs of the NK cycling in Maastricht.

Easy climb with an unexpected sharp edge. Doable, also for the less experienced.

The part from the village Sint Antoniusbank to the sports fields of Cadier en Keer is quite tough. For the rest, the climb is fairly easy.
