Okay, the highest point in Belgium could be more spectacular, but the scenery is certainly beautiful. From Eupen (a nice little town), the steep road soon leads into the countryside. One morning I had the road to myself and could concentrate on my legs. The tarmac stretches almost endlessly through woodland and moorland towards Baraque Michel, where the landscape comes back to life. The route continues on good tarmac until you finally reach the Botrange tower and can enjoy the moment on the roof of Belgium. A very beautiful section on my Eifel/Ardennes tour today. This also includes the great descent on the super tarmac road towards Sourbrodt. I will certainly return here.

Climb over a wide road that is sometimes driven fast but is otherwise quiet (and overtaking is actually always neat). Just after the start, turn left into a small junction that starts nice and steep and then via a residential area back onto the main road where you turn left again. This is followed by an endless road up to Baraque Michel which is actually already a summit. Before the very highest point (also in Belgium) continue cycling and after a slight descent there is a left turn and a gentle climb (over yet another wide road) to Signal de Botrange. Despite the average low percentage, you make quite a few altitude metres and the scenery is largely beautiful and changes nicely as you get higher.
