Selletta del Monte Calbiga / Rifugio Venini from San Fedele Intelvi

Lu ga greets from the lake approx. 25km 17 from the village of San fedele after lazy little traffic goes uphill surrounded by nature with breathtaking views but always with steep slopes beware of the bumpy downhill assault

A spectacular climb, probably one of the most scenic on Lake Como and the pearl of Val d'Intelvi. As the plan suggests, the climb is made up of two demanding sections: the first, from Pigra to Alpe di Colonno where the gradients never let up (constantly above 9％), you are constantly in the shade in the dense forest almost to the point that, at times, visibility is poor. Having passed the Alpe di Colonno and a downhill section, the second, more spectacular part begins until the Venini refuge. The last ramp is almost 3 km, again with significant gradients and a landscape that opens up completely, offering breathtaking scenery. A very negative note, unfortunately, is the asphalt, which is in a pitiful condition. If this climb had a better surface, it would be a great bdc classic. With a little (a lot) of attention, however, it can be tackled.

Beautiful climb! The road surface is very bad the last few kilometres, making the descent dangerous. There are also considerable stretches with a nice abyss next to you with no guard rails.

It is a pity that in the last two kilometres before the refuge the asphalt is in such poor condition that it makes the descent very unpleasant for a racing bike.

Great riding between ridges and mountains, with enormous views. Not to be missed.
