This route to Schwägalp (and then to the Schwägalp Pass) is much more suitable for cyclists than the main road 462, which is heavily used by motorised vehicles. After the turn-off from the main road after the bridge over the? Urnäsch, the trail goes up to the left. In places it becomes quite steep. This is how military roads used to be built: as few bends as possible, gradient doesn't matter. The road is forbidden to motorised traffic. You drive through cattle meadows and through a super landscape, in the upper part with a view of the Säntis. The road is asphalted throughout. You pass the apex of the route just before the huge Schwägalp car park. It is quite a shock when you come out of the lovely countryside and see the Schwägalp car park: a sea of sheet metal and glass. When it gets crowded, even the meadows are parked full.
