A nice long climb with good tarmac. The big disadvantage here is that there is quite a lot of car traffic on this climb. In that respect, this climb is very similar to the nearby climb to Vossenack. But I personally like this climb better and I also like the views on top of Schmidt better than on Vossenack. So highly recommended, and great to combine in a round trip: Rennweg - Schmidt (from Nideggen) - Vossenack

Mooie klim, vooral eerste stuk.

From Nideggen, the lovely tarmac road winds its way uphill at moderate percentages. The forest is a pleasure, especially later in the year (autumn colours). Once out of the forest, the road goes straight to Schmidt with first an almost flat piece, but towards the end it goes up again (for me the hardest part)

Nice climb in the Eifel. Especially the first part is nice and winding, first between the houses, then between the fields and the forest. When exiting the forest you think you're there, because so many climbs in this area level off to the top, but nothing is further from the truth, when you've turned into the village you really get a tough piece of climbing. In the village I enjoyed a nice bread roll from the bakery several times. The advantage of this region is that the villages are often above, instead of in the valley, so you have time to digest your food for the next effort.
