A nice long climb where especially the beginning feels like climbing. Then it flattens out, but the strong headwind in the second part meant that the end just didn't seem to be in sight.

Long and fun climb from Heimbach to Schmidt. The first 3½ kilometres you feel you are climbing. Then it flattens out to false flat. In Schmidt, the gradient then rises a bit in the last kilometre. Bear in mind that on weekends, this is when quite a few motorcyclists ride up and down this climb to work on their cornering technique.

Nice climb, but not very spectacular. Not easy, not difficult, beautiful views and nice and quiet.

I cycled this climb during the tour Mendig-Budel. It takes place on the first Saturday of July every year and to me it is a must.

This climb comes after about 100 km of the route so my legs had already used up the first barrel of gunpowder. The first part is a tough climb over good tarmac. Then the climb flattens out a bit. Nice climb

Leuke klim

The climb starts in a beautiful village with half-timbered houses. If you climb out of the village you end up in a forest where you still firmly climb. Then the road has some short descents and from there it is still a very long slightly ascending road. When you've struggled through it you have a nice view over the lake.
There was not much traffic and like everywhere in this area the tarmac was fine. But overall not a memorable climb.

I did this one in 2017 as one of my first climbs abroad. Departs from Heimbach. The first part as you come out of the village does feel like a climb. Normal gradient and some winding in nature. But once you have had the steepest part, it is a somewhat boring "runner" along a rather busy road. Not much of a view to enjoy. At the top you come to a large road where you can go left to cycle around the lake. This road (large lane with separate bike path) runs on the ridge of the mountain and it blows very hard. You immediately understand why there are all these wind turbines along the road. I would certainly not detour. But it is part of the route around the lake.
