The approach is not the along the prettiest and safest routes, but once you get to the foot, this is a beautiful yet gentle climb with views of the sea (in the distance) in the beginning and then, once in the forest, the typical Tuscan vistas and villages. It is not a difficult climb with some flatter sections and even descents too, but of course you can make it as tough as you want.

Nice climb. First part completely open, making it quite tough in full sun and heat. After the village of Castagneto Carducci until Sassetta, it is mostly covered by trees, making it quite sheltered. 2nd section also has a lot better road for cycling.

Mooie klim.

My review is upside/down as I descended this road many times after climbing from Suvereto to Sassetta. But it was worth reviewing as the descent is fantastic. First part is delightful with a broad road, smooth broad curves... after Castagneto it gets a bit more winding with some salire curves. The surface is still good and at this point probably the panorama will keep most of your attention, expecially at sunset! Glorious

A delightful climb towards Fornaci with the toughest part coming first. The first turns up to Castagneto Carducci are the toughest, especially when the sun is shining brightly. After Castagneto you dive into the woods, which gives nice coolness. It can be busy here with cars's driving quite fast.
