The Santuario St.Anna di Vinadio (2034m) is a very popular summer tourist destination with faithful (cycling) Italians.
The vast majority of the climbing route to it is identical to the Italian side of the border-crossing Col de la Lombarde (see CF).
Hence also the same spectacular start with a series of 13 hairpin bends stacked on top of each other for a short distance to make the very narrow road wind steeply up through the narrow valley along the river. Followed by straight road, where you can already see the little church on a rock at the top in the distance , occasionally interrupted by a few hairpins. On a flat stretch take a right turn to the pilgrimage site for the last 3 steep
climbing kilometres to the top. End point is the little church in which even the floor runs uphill and a fantastic panorama .
Was arrival point in the 2016 Giro, but then the peloton came downhill from the pass crossing!
There are kilometre markers from the start and food & drinks at the summit.

As an extra to the Col de la Lombarde or as a goal in itself, absolutely worth the bike !!!!!!!

Het Santuario St.Anna di Vinadio (2034m) is een zomers heel populaire toeristische bestemming bij de gelovige (fietsende) italianen.
Het overgrote deel van de klimroute ernaar is identiek aan de Italiaanse kant van de grensoverstijgende Col de la Lombarde (zie CF).
Vandaar ook dezelfde spectaculaire start met op een korte afstand een serie van 13 op elkaar gestapelde haarspeldbochten om de erg smalle weg steil door het nauwe dal langs de rivier naar omhoog te laten kronkelen. Gevolgd door rechte weg, waar je boven in de verte op een rots het kerkje al kan zien ,af en toe onderbroken door enkele haarspeldbochten. Op een vlak stukje neem je rechtse afslag naar het bedevaartsoord voor de laatste 3 steile
klimkilometers tot de top. Eindpunt is het kerkje waarin zelfs de vloer bergop loopt en een fantastische panorama .
Was aankomstplaats in de Giro 2016, maar toen kwam het peloton in dalende lijn van de pasovergang!
Er zijn kilometerpalen vanaf de start en er is eten & drinken op de top.

Als extra bij de Col de la Lombarde of als doel op zich, absoluut de fiets moeite waard !!!!!!!

Beautiful climb that branches off about six km from the top of the Lombarda to the sanctuary. The last few kilometres are very tough, but definitely worth the effort. On the top a pleasant bustle of cyclists and hikers who visit the highest 'sanctuario' of Europe.

Mooie beklimming die zo'n zes km van de top van de Lombarda aftakt naar het heiligdom. De laatste kms zijn erg pittig, maar beslist de moeite waard. Op de top een gezellige drukte van fietsers en wandelaars die een bezoekje brengen aan het hoogste 'sanctuario' van Europa.
