First easy but boring section, a long straight stretch from Manfrefonia. Wide road, little traffic.
Turn right and the more challenging and decidedly more scenic climb begins. After the five hairpin bends, the road continues straight on to San Giovanni Rotondo. It continues uphill to the historic centre, and further on to the sanctuary of San Padre Pio.
