Scenic climb where you also feel the incline anyway. You drive up through the forest. There are partly younger trees on either side, which gives a somewhat more spatial effect. Just before the highest point, you pass a beautiful gatehouse. The road is (almost) car-free so it is nice and quiet.
So now I see for the first time that the Ruiterberg South 'lighter' would be than the mountain from the north. It doesn't feel that way, because from this side you have to make a sharp turn from the bike path and start the climb almost from standstill (at least in crowded conditions). Not steep, but long enough to get your heart rate up if you pedal hard. Recovering is very well possible in the descent, from both sides it is a nice downhill.
