The only time I have set foot in this region, which has become my second home. Even the Malgré Tout is more manageable with its hairpins than the straight line at the start of this climb. Reminds me that I desperately need to tame it!
I recommend climbing up the ridge past here, rather than climbing to Oignies from Fumay or Olloy, as that road is a lot busier. It's better to take the voie verte from Fumay towards Vireux or Hierges and then go via Treignes to Le Mesnil, or if you're coming from Olloy, take the RaVel to Treignes, so you can use the bigger road between Fumay and Olloy as a daler.

Beautiful but difficult climb. When leaving the village you can feel the steepness going up immediately. There are still some less difficult parts but actually you have the feeling that the whole climb is steep.
Once you turn into the forest you are all alone. You will hardly encounter any traffic here. The road surface is in good condition.
