The climb is really tough at first with gradients of 10 and 11% . It's best to be a seasoned climber (which isn't really my case) to tackle this route calmly. The surface is fairly average but good enough for speed uphill (given the gradients), but it's best to avoid this road for the descent.
I have to admit that I didn't enjoy the scenery in the first part (I was too focused on my effort) but after the lake and a bend to the right, the slope calms down and the place is magnificent. You pass under some climbing installations and then, after the junction with the road that leads to the Schmargult hostel, you arrive surprisingly quickly on the route des crêtes, which allows you to choose between going to the Honeck on the left or continuing on the right towards the Rainkopf in the direction of the Markstein.

The beginning is really difficult, very regular. Then it gets quieter.
The Bramont / Blanchemer / Honeck sequence from Keith is worth the diversions and leaves its mark

Starting from La Bresse, it is easy-peasy until you take the route to Lac du Blanchemer. The good thing is that you are away from most motor traffic, not so good are the 1st 3 kilometres a 11%. Take some time to look at the lake, it is really beautiful. And when you finally reach the Hohneck, you know that it has not been for nothing - what a view!

Percentage above 10%. Break legs. See you on the ridge. Personally I venture there once a year.

Pourcentage au dessus de 10%. Casse pattes.

Alternative way to ride to the Routes des Cretes. A quieter alternative to the busy Col de la Schlucht. Where the first 3km are harder than you would expect, the last part of the climb is very friendly. A quiet climb where the first part of the climb is also used by traffic on their way to a lake half way up the slope.

Heavy parts in the beginning: the first 3km the climb doesn't go below 12%. Then it levels off and you have nice views of the surrounding lakes and ski resorts. Recommended to cycle up the Routes des Cretes to Le Hohneck: touristy point, but beautiful 360 degree view to the Alps!
