Rocky Lane has been slightly rerouted to make way for the HS2 railway line, but is still a good climb. Once the less steep lower section (and HS2 works) has been completed the gradient increases and the road winds up through woodland before emerging at the top section with some great views over the valley below. The wooded section is steep enough to make you work, but at the same time this climb is an easier option to the somewhat brutal Hale Lane nearby. Rocky Lane is wide enough for two cars, so you don't get that tight squeeze situation that invariably happens in Hale Lane. I would also recommend Rocky Lane in descent, unlike Hale Lane which is too hazardous to let go.
